Phoenix – Farshad Farzankia
PHOENIX was a collaboration between Farshad Farzankia and Brdr. Krüger for Wallpaper* Handmade in Milan 2019. The Tehran-born painter – known for colorful narrative and symbolic compositions that often deal with cultural identity and exchange – moved away from his favoured medium to make a piece that didn’t involve a single drop of paint.
The sculpture was made in two parts – an elegantly curved bird supported by a rougher-hewn pedestal. Importantly, both parts were made from offcuts at Brdr Krüger’s workshop. Instead of burning the waste wood for local heating, they would now find a new life, like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
