David Thulstrup has transformed a 220-yearold hide warehouse in Copenhagen into four exclusive apartments, responding to the building’s rich heritage by creating contemporary homes with character and patina that are the epitome of quiet luxury.
For the Danish architect, a central theme of the transformation was to create a new narrative within the historic space on the Christianshavn canal that speaks to the industrial history as well as its conversion into relaxed and airy homes. To achieve this, Thulstrup oversaw a meticulous renovation and orchestrated a contemporary renewal expressed in natural materials dictated by the 1806 brick building.
The Arv Chair’s elegant simplicity and craftsmanship perfectly mirror the natural materials that define the renovated space. This blend of elegance, comfort, and craftsmanship aligns seamlessly with David Thulstrup’s vision of creating serene, modern homes while honoring the building’s industrial past.
Explore“I wanted to reveal the beauty of it all, using a small palette of original materials out of respect for the building, such as rendered walls, simple pine planks and Finnish stone, but putting them into another more relevant context. I am making a contemporary statement within a transformation, I don’t want to mimic the past, I want to put the future into the past.” – David Thulstrup
Strandgade 104 has been turned into exceptional homes. Prevented from dividing the internal space into rooms, Thulstrup played up the experience of the open space inserting two cubes in a central core to house a stairwell, fitted kitchen and bathrooms.
